announces Pete Townshend on stage as the Who dive in to "Quadrophenia".
This work is an homage to that opera.
It's Townshend's tale of an angst filled 1960s mod named Jimmy, who possesses double-schizophrenia:
QUADROPHENIA !
Four distinct personalities - - - -
each personified by a member of The Who.
As Townshend wrote it:
• Daltrey - "'Helpless Dancer' - Violent & Determined, Aggressive & Unshakable"
• Entwistle - "'Is It Me?' - Quiet & Romantic, Tender & Doubting"
• Moon - "'Bell Boy' - Insane & Devil-May-Care, Unreasoning & Bravado"
• Townshend - "'Love Reign O'er Me' - Insecure & Spiritually Desparate, Searching & Questioning"
The Who explode on the viewer with '60s-style pop art (and op art),
It's also a chronicle of the band from 1964 to "the present" - "the present" being 1976 when this work was begun - then shelved 14 years.
This colored pencil, ink, charcoal pencil and pastel artwork was completed on Sep 1, 1991.
