Description
AI description:
A black and white sketch displays a covered bridge with the phrase "CHESTER NH" prominently featured at the top. Two ghostly hands appear to rest on books, "Inc" and the year "1722" are inscribed on them at the bottom of the composition.
"She has a touch of gold,
New Hampshire gold --
You may have heard of it."
- - 'New Hampshire' (excerpt), Robert Frost 1923
Chester, New Hampshire was incorporated in 1722.
Early American clock manufacturing was done here. The clock face represented in this work also serves as a "time tunnel". It welcomes the viewer to enter and cross over Chester's covered bridge in to the sun-filtered woods, choose a trail ( " less traveled " ) . . . and step into a hundred years ago.
Also depicted
• Flock of geese do a fly-by over our home town.
• Antlers of the white tail deer (NH state animal);
• White birch trees (NH state tree);
• Abraham Lincoln's Hands
- Daniel Chester French sculpted the Lincoln Memorial statue. He kept a summer home here in Chester and, as the story goes, favored this town so
that he chose it for his middle name. French's sculpted hands of Abraham Lincoln
(resting on his law books) are represented in this artwork.

A really awesome drawing. There must be a story here. I am honored to feature it in the Paintings and Drawings of Covered Bridges Group.
